Ahmet Üzümcü (born 1951-08-30[1] ) is a Turkish career diplomat who is presently the director-general of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.[2] Üzümcü was consul at the Consulate General in Aleppo, Syria as well as ambassador in Israel.[1] From 1999 to 2002 he served as the permanent representative of Turkey to the NATO.[1] In 2008, he was chair of the Conference on Disarmament to which he was the permanent representative of Turkey.[3]
Üzümcü received an Honorary Doctorate for Lifetime Achievements in Arms Control and Disarmament from the Geneva School of Diplomacy in 2010 just prior to taking up his position at the OPCW.[2]
